POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The Epidemiologist 1 position will support quantitativeand qualitative evaluation efforts of the Tennessee Department ofHealths (TDH) Division of Health Disparities Elimination (DHDE).
  • The position will develop and test specifictools and instruments to capture organize and analyze informationrelated to provider grantee or partner surveys focus groups keyinformant interviews thematic reviews surveys EHR extracts andother data collection methods as appropriate.
  • Developing data collection tools via REDCap conductingbasic descriptive epidemiologic analyses and developing reports arecore functions of the position.
  • The positionwill create data models visualizations charts tables and otherresources for use by nontechnical users both internal and externalto the Department. The position will also identify and reportmeaningful metrics to gauge progress on projects and provide datadriven recommendations for the future.
  • Theposition will work as a part of the data infrastructure andevaluation unit within the DHDE and report directly to theDivisions Senior Epidemiologist.

RESPONSIBILITIES/WORKACTIVITIES

  • The positionsresponsibilities include but are not limited to thefollowing:
  • Facilitate collaborative meetingswith DHDE staff grantees and contractors in designing and executingplans for program data collection and analysis in alignment withfederal and state specific strategies and work plans
  • Manage multiple projects and job duties through efficienttask management including status meetings weekly reports andidentification tracking and resolution of problems andissues
  • Research quantitative and qualitativemethods and recommend certain approaches
  • Analyze data using Excel SAS SPSS R Tableau MS Access orother applications as needed
  • Provide technicalassistance and guidance to staff and key partners (internal andexternal) on data collection methods reporting andanalysis.
  • Communicate information related toprogram activities and analytical findings to funding agencies TDHstaff/contractors DHDE grantees and stakeholders verbally and inwriting
  • Create and deliver publicfacingreports presentations websites and educational materials todisseminate findings to a broad audience of community partnersstakeholders and lay persons

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS &ABILITIES

  • The positionsknowledge and skills include but are not limited to thefollowing:
  • Demonstrated ability to gatherorganize analyze and interpret primary and secondarydata
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effectiveinsightful data visualizations
  • Experience withREDCap Tableau and/or statistical software such as R SAS STATA orSPSS
  • Demonstrated experience leading projectswith multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated timemanagement skills and proven ability to manage multiple taskssimultaneously while completing work within allocated timeframes
  • Outstanding written and verbalcommunications skills including the ability to communicateeffectively with both technical and lay audiences
  • Superior analytical and problemsolving skills workingboth individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively across programs andoffices and interact with all levels of departmental staff thepublic and other governmental and nongovernmentalentities
  • Knowledge of analytical andevaluation methods to evaluate policies programs andissues
  • Good understanding of database designand maintenance

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduationfrom an accredited college or university with a masters degree inepidemiology public health biostatistics statistics healthinformatics health science biomedical science or environmentalscience field with experience equivalent to two years workexperience in epidemiology
  • Masters degree inpublic health or other quantitatively based social scienceeducation is desirable
  • Public healthexperience is a plus

OTHERREQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION

  • This is a hybrid position and must be available to reportto the office at minimum 1 or 2 days per month or more asneeded.
  • The candidate must reside in or bewilling to relocate to Tennessee.
  • The standardwork week will be 37.5 hours.
  • Some travel isrequired.
  • This position is designed to be alongterm contract position and will support multiyear grant andstate funded projects.
