Description

Working within a roster of Assistant News Editors to ensure Channel 4 News coverage is comprehensive, fast, and efficient in our coverage of UK and worldwide stories. This role will also help secure future filming opportunities, including chasing guest interviews and case studies. Key Responsibilities Co-ordinate the assignment of Channel 4 News camera crews and newsgathering staff across UK and international deployments  Assigning Live U’s and working with Traffic/NOC to book feeds and incoming Skype and remote lives from both UK and international sources  Effective liaison throughout the day with the ITV, 5 News and ITV Regional news desks to ensure Channel 4 News is across all content and deployments and to avoid duplications in assignments  Working with the Planning Editor to bid for future filming opportunities and guests and case studies Pursue and liaise with potential guests or contributors, negotiating fees within budget  Logging pictures  Cutting footage on desktop editing system and arranging for it to be sent to teams in the field  Researching, locating and negotiating the acquisition of stills and video material within budget  Be aware of copyright and access information and ensure that teams are correctly informed of any picture or compliance restrictions  Work with digital teams to identify picture that would work on social media platforms  Speaking to and prioritising callers to the newsdesk  Understanding the importance of fast, accurate and detailed logging of material and absolute compliance with ITN policy on clip coding  Monitor foreign news agency feeds, book studios, guests, feeds and fixers outside the UK  Regularly attend embassies to apply for visas for reporting teams

Key Requirements Good communicator able to use initiative and quickly make decisions  A good understanding of newsgathering logistics and broadcast/newsgathering technology Ability to work calmly under pressure  Confidence to approach potential guests and contributors and persuade them to be interviewed  Interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a broad range of people  A good organisational approach, with the ability to multi-task while retaining an attention to detail  A genuine interest in, and knowledge of, the UK and global news agenda  Flexible worker with a positive approach to problem-solving  Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual  Awareness of Health and Safety requirements and confident with active Risk Assessments  Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making  Non-English language skills a distinct advantage
