An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester General Hospital. We are inviting applications for a part time post, Consultant in Neurophysiology. Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.

The proposed Timetable is indicative of the work required but is not rigid and will be flexible depending on service needs and interests of the applicant.

The job plan will then be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It should provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it should include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

Main duties of the job

The post holder’s duties will be at the Colchester Hospital but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust.

This post is a replacement of a retired consultant. The post is designed to cover (5 PAs) at Colchester Hospital. The post holder will have the responsibility of providing and developing the full range of Neurophysiological procedures. The post holder will help deliver a modern and efficient Clinical Neurophysiology service at Colchester Hospital. This will include neurophysiological tests used in the investigation of peripheral nerve and muscle disease, electroencephalography, evoked potentials and other neurophysiological tests of the central nervous system. Other responsibilities will include the supervision and training of clinical physiologists in the department, in association with the department clinical manager. There will be a commitment for time off in lieu (such as weekend work).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Post Holder will assist in the development of clinical services achieving locally and national agreed standards.

CLINICAL DUTIES

·To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient Clinical Neurophysiology service.

·To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and the local purchasers’ contracts.

·To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with all practitioners who refer patients for investigation and treatment.

·To encourage and foster clinical governance at clinical, managerial and medical levels and to take part in regional audit in support of evidence-based medicine.

·To participate in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the General Manager and the Clinical Director.

·To take part in continuing medical education activities, in line with the Royal College of Physicians guidelines and in consultation with the Medical Director.

·Responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge including administrative duties associated with patient care.

·Leadership and proper functioning of the services in his/her charge in line with agreed policies of the Trust.

·Participation in clinical audit.

·Proactive participation in the management and development of clinical neurophysiology services. This will include liaison and communication with the Lead Clinician, the General Manager and the Clinical Director.
