Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic HCA to join our growingpractice. The successful candidate will assistthe GPs, Urgent Care Teamand Practice Nurses in the service and delivery of the care management of thepractice population.

The post holder will work under the indirect supervision of the PracticeNurses and undertake tasks and duties delegated by the Practice Nurses or asuitably qualified regulated will workcollaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients,following policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

Undertake,record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have receivedappropriate training and after assessment by trainer has been completed Urinalysis andpreparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory Venepuncture Simple dressings Measuring andrecording physiological measurements in routine presentations: Blood pressure Temperature Height andweight body mass index Smoking status Peak flow Spirometry Standard ECG 24 hour BP/ECG Foot examinationin diabetic patients To assistclinicians undertaking minor surgical procedures Prepare andmaintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient careinterventions Assist inraising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted Give accurateand appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence

Job Purpose

Job Summary

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Skills

Undertake,record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have receivedappropriate training and after assessment by trainer has been completed

Urinalysisand preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory

Venepuncture

Simpledressings

Measuringand recording physiological measurements in routine presentations:

1. Blood pressure

2. Temperature

3. Height andweight body mass index

4. Smoking status

5. Peak flow

6. Spirometry

7. Standard ECG

8. 24 hour BP/ECG

9. Foot examinationin diabetic patients

Toassist clinicians undertaking minor surgical procedures

Assistin raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted

Giveaccurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within owncompetence

Qualifications

Essential

- Good General Education - Qualified in Phlebotomy - Experience within a health care setting - Experience in a previous role as a HCA - Ability to provide quality care - Good interpersonal and communication skills - Good organisational skills - Good team working skills - Effective time management skills - Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions - Adaptable to change - Computer literate - An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality - Able to work on own initiative - Able to work under pressure and remain calm - Flexible and adaptable - Aware of own limitations - Keen to develop - Provide cover for absence of other HCAs when required

Desirable

- Qualified to NVQ level 3 - Experience in GP Practice - Basic IT Skills - Knowledge in EMIS Web - Skills in Phlebotomy, ECGs, Patient Health Checks, Blood Pressures - Basic first aid knowledge - Health and safety awareness - Awareness of Blood Borne Viruses

Qualifications
