Job summary

Eastbourne Assessment & Treatment Service (ATS) has an exciting new role, inviting applications from Occupational Therapists who have an interest in Neurodivergence.

You will work alongside adults aged 18 and over open to Eastbourne ATS with a diagnosed functional mental health disorder and neuro-divergent needs. This new link role will focus on supporting the community team's clinicians in delivering reasonable adjustments; to support the person in our care towards their recovery journey. You will provide time-bounded co-working, consultation and expertise to ATS staff, develop and provide sensory interventions and other adapted individual & group interventions as well as hold a capped caseload of individuals with complex presentations and provide duty support.

The post will include linking with other services including the Transforming Care Autism Team (TCAT) that supports clinicians with admission avoidance, and facilitating discharges for autistic people. This is a great opportunity for the postholder to work alongside this highly specialist, innovative team who are passionate about improving the lives of autistic people in mental health services. TCAT will support the post holder to develop into the specialist link role through providing supervision, training and shared learning experiences.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for a registered Occupational Therapist to provide/support staff with occupational therapy/sensory interventions for referred clients that are neurodivergent or have suspected neurodivergent needs alongside a complex presentation of mental health and wellbeing needs. They will be using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

The role of postholder is to work in partnership with ATS staff and service users in the designated care group with complex health presentations, developing their care plans and recovery plans to enable them to lead fulfilling lives. They will demonstrate an understanding of clinical interventions relevant the care group to include education, care plans and discharge planning, working closely with carers, families and partner agencies to facilitate this. The post holder will work at all times to promote the safety and the well-being of service users and their families/carers. The post holder will support practitioners to assess, plan and implement care, and provide specialist mental health advice and promote recovery. They may act as a mentor for students. The post holder with be lead practitioner for a capped caseload of individuals with complex needs as well as performing some generic duties with in the team.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who will offer support for a defined caseload of service users and their lead practitioners by undertaking the following duties:

To undertake/ support functional and sensory assessments of individuals and their families in the designated care group with complex health presentations, including those service users presenting with higher levels of risk. To develop alongside the service user their care plan.

To offer specialist Occupational Therapy clinical assessment and advice where required.

To assess and manage with the lead practitioner on going risks as identified, ensuring that this is done in collaboration with the service user and carers. To regularly review risk factors and make changes to the management of them as necessary.

To participate/contribute in the planning, development and evaluation of profession specific and/or autism specific guidelines.

To ensure that clinical practice is evidence based and consistent with relevant NICE guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.

To provide supervision of junior staff and trainees where appropriate.

To act within the relevant professional code of conduct at all times.
