Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and dedicated to helping them thrive in their learning environment? GSL Education is currently looking for SEN Teaching Assistants for various primary and secondary schools in Basildon from September 2024. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing essential support to students with varying needs, such as SEN, SEMH, and ADHD. Your involvement will have a direct impact on their personal and academic development, ensuring they feel included, supported, and empowered to succeed. This is a rewarding opportunity to help shape the futures of students who need extra care and attention.

Responsibilities of SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in the classroom, particularly those with SEN, SEND, SEMH, and ADHD needs.
  • Providing one-to-one or small group assistance to help students with their academic studies and personal development.
  • Working closely with teachers to prepare lessons aligned with the curriculum and key stages.
  • Adapting lesson plans to suit the individual needs of students with SEND.
  • Ensuring continuity of learning by supporting classroom activities in the absence of the teacher.
  • Implementing effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive learning environment.
  • Encouraging students to build their independence, confidence, and social skills.

Job Requirements of SEN Teaching Assistant

  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance is required.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role as SEN Teaching Assistant is mandatory.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A caring and patient approach when working with children.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
