Position Description:

Historically, the role of IT has been to provide a reliable ecosystem to run the business, drive efficiencies and reduce costs. These areas remain integral, however, driven by the quickening pace of innovation, IT must evolve, proactively partnering with the business to enable new digital business models that power new types of customer engagement.

The Architect role provides technical thought leadership, contributing to the business vision, with the autonomy to make key design decisions, as well as influence technology investments. Therefore, the Solution Architect role requires technical breadth and depth (specifically application architecture, software engineering and SaaS solutions), as well as a proven track record of enterprise delivery.

This role will be positioned supporting the Commercial teams to enable the future business and IT vision. The role will require strong partnership across the Commercial business, IT, multiple functions and the enterprise to ensure the technology foundation and decisions align with architecture principals. Partnership with the Commercial Business, Digital Product Delivery and Product Management teams and serving as an advisor is essential to help inform strategic direction as it relates to technology decisions.

The individual must be able to articulate and translate complex technical topics to stakeholders, help lift the technical competency of teams, collaborate with internal / external partners, and ensure alignment to architectural principles and standards and contribute to business outcomes.

Support the Commercial Function

Contribute to the technical strategic vision and roadmap across, Commercial ensuring the technology ecosystem is right sized to support the needs of the business and continually invested in to avoid technical debt accumulation. Partner with other architects to deliver technical designs of all solutions to support broader architecture and technical fit into the Commercial ecosystem leaving a clear blueprint for delivery teams to execute against.Design implementation paths for custom and Line of Business applications (Software-as-a-Service and Commercial-of-the-Shelf), covering commodity/highly industrialised business processes.Lead architecture and technology strategy for Commercial across a broad array of technologies including but not limited to CRM, email marketing, web, IoT, master data management, social media, paid media, and other related sales and marketing technologies.Influence roadmaps of other technology teams outside of Commercial to connect upstream / downstream dependencies and intersection points. This includes finance and SAP functions that have direct impact on our commercial landscape.Contribute to the continued iteration of the architecture assets as it relates to Commercial technologies including functional technology roadmap, city maps and reference architecture. Leverage these tools to influence investment to ensure we have strong foundations to support future business direction.Support problem resolution at a technical level with the ability to dive into custom engineered solutions, rationalise challenges with support from engineers and clearly articulate back to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to articulate to a technical level how a solution fits architectural standards. Use this to ensure the portfolio of technologies in this space are right sized for Elanco.Understand internal and external technology trends and interpret future digital needs in Elanco where possible showcasing the art of the possible to Product Management and business stakeholders to help drive future strategy.Focus on reuse mindset introducing technologies that allow easy reproduction of pre-existing tools driving cost efficiencies for Elanco.Understanding Elanco’s technical landscape and building continuous improvement to remove technical debt and reduce spend across Commercial.Leverage enterprise capability to bring innovation to the Commercial functions including the emergence of the GenAI technologies.Coach peer architects and members of the delivery team to increase technical acumen.

Stakeholder Engagement

Support Commercial business functions.Support Group Product Leads and Product Managers in business discussions helping to clearly articulate how technology visions and roadmaps support business outcomes.Establish strong partnerships with key service integrators (vendors), and internal Elanco Engineers helping to ensure technical competency and architecture alignment.Externally connected bringing the outside in and art of the possible for leadership across the function.

Architecture Team

Partner with business, Product Management, and enterprise/solution architects to recommend opportunities to rationalise or combine technologies that cut across functions looking for both efficiency and reuse opportunities.Partner across the architecture team to deliver on key central architecture initiatives that support continued growth and impact of Architecture across Elanco.Support solution architecture review groups to ensure solutions delivered in Commercial and meet enterprise requirements.Contribute to the identification and rationalisation of technical debt looking to recommend and support portfolio health initiatives across functions and enterprise.Enable the discovery capability in Commercial to help validate business and technology direction.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience in Commercial domain areas with examples of designing, delivering, and working with multi-channel integrated ecosystem.Hands on experience with CRM solutions and related ecosystem essential.Hands on experience advantageous across other commercial tooling including web, social media, paid media, master data management.Awareness of SAP and Vistex tooling with ability to influence roadmaps to achieve specific commercial needs.Experience in large technology selection processes able to lead technical decision making.Strong technical background ideally from a hands-on IT engineering background, with array of different experiences in Architecture space.Significant experience working with:Modern application architecture methodologies (Service Orientated Architecture, API-Centric Design, Twelve-Factor App, FAIR, etc.)Cloud Native design patterns, with a preference towards Microsoft Azure / Google Cloud“” culture, including modern software development practices, covering Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), etc.Experience with interface implementation between SaaS providers ().Experience supporting digital platforms, including Integrations, Release Management, Regression Testing, Integrations, Data Obfuscation, etc.Experience scaling an “API-Ecosystem”, designing, and implementing “API-First” integration patterns.Strong organizational and communications skills with multiple examples of being able to convey complex technical topics, that resulted in a definitive direction.Strong leadership and proactive communication skills with a strong bias for action and ability to advise others.
