It is a requirement of the role to complete a 15-month training program undertaking a GPhC accredited level 2 qualification.

Training will be provided and study time will be allocated to complete the qualification. This is initially a 15-month fixed term contract and will be made permanent on completion of the qualification, training and if all other requirements are met.

Applicants must be able to meet the requirement for basic skills Maths and English Level 1 or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

You will be working across site, at each of our Aseptic Units (LGI and SJUH).

You will be working with several different professions, performing a variety of different tasks, whilst working to strict deadlines.

Overview of the role:

Distribution of Pharmaceuticals to wards and departments

Receipt of Pharmaceuticals from external wholesalers and manufactures

Sanitisation and preparation of the aseptic unit

Assembly of products within the aseptic unit

Stock Control

Obtaining signatures and maintaining accurate documentation for receipt of aseptic products

Job responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Working to relevant SOPs and undertaking a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification

Required to work in dispensaries, stores, aseptic units and on wards/clinical areas

Receipt of consignments from suppliers, including checking and booking into the Pharmacy Computer System. Prompt reporting of discrepancies to the stores supervisor.

Deal with returned goods from customers and process paperwork according to SOPs. Includes processing and re-cycling unused medicines returned from wards.

Carry out routine stock control procedures. Ensure stock is located under correct storage conditions and continuous evaluation of stock levels, stock rotation and expiry dates is undertaken.

Perform necessary clerical tasks associated with the service. These may be manual but more routinely involve keyboard data entry onto the JAC system. This includes order entry, stock list maintenance & printing, issuing to correct cost centres.

Participate in regular stock-takes according to departmental procedures.

Contribute to the ward & department medicines top-up service.

Pick and pack orders for distribution, under supervision. Pack and process materials for sterilization.

Over-labelling of commercial packs.

Deliver medicines to wards and departments, ensuring compliance with Trust Medicines Management policies.

Maintenance of work areas and good housekeeping in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Operation of specialist equipment powered stacking equipment, aseptic tray washer, tablet packaging equipment etc

Cleaning aseptic facilities and equipment in accordance with SOPs

Transfer waste (pharmaceutical and household) to the appropriate collection points, according to procedures

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Capable of carrying out deliveries promptly and in a manner which ensures safe working practice and maintains security controls. This includes the manoeuvring of pallets and roll-cages all around the hospital.

On a daily basis, routinely lifting packages up to 20kg manually & where > 20kg, using appropriate mechanical aids, bulk handling of IV fluid boxes, manoeuvring pallet loads electronic pallet lifters or, where necessary, a fork-lift truck.

MENTAL EFFORT:

Concentration required for accurately picking and booking out of orders. Also forward top-ups. Part of the daily routine. Required to sustain concentration and work quickly and accurately.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Occasional exposure to distressing and upsetting scenes whilst checking stock in clinical areas such as A&E, PICU, ICU, etc.
