Job summary

We have exciting opportunities for both permanent and fixed term/secondment positions within our Emergency Department for a full or part-time Band 6 Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse to join our team. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated individual who is passionate about delivering high quality emergency care in a fast paced environment.

As a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department your role is pivotal as a proficient role model and clinical expert working alongside the Senior Nursing Team.

You will need:

Emergency or acute nursing experience at AFC Bands 5 or 6 with experience and proficiency in the relevant skills appropriate to emergency care. Evidence of continuing professional development. To be a good communicator. Be willing to drive innovative practice within an emergency care setting.

The successful applicant will provide enthusiastic, passionate and innovative nursing leadership and ensure supportive day-to-day operational running of the Emergency Department. You will be expected to take part in staff development, ensuring you act as a facilitator and mentor to ensure staff feel valued and developed. You will be an advocate for local and trust wide agendas that will help make the department an outstanding place to work.

Main duties of the job

To be designated to act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility for the organisation and management of the practice setting. To demonstrate and facilitate others to develop the necessary skills and experience in ward/department management and provide leadership in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse. Use a range of techniques to set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to continually improve standards of care and patient experience. To support the development and implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives. To teach and act as a mentor /assessor / preceptor to nursing students, junior registered and unregistered staff, volunteers and work experience candidates, as well as participating in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate.
