Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Coding Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will:

Translate Medical Information: Accurately convert medical terminology, diagnoses, and procedures into clinical coded data using national and international classifications, adhering to Clinical Coding Standards, rules, and conventions within Trust deadlines.

Review and Update Clinical Codes: Examine a variety of reports and correspondence related to inpatients, updating or amending clinical codes as necessary based on completed source documents.

Ensure Coding Consistency: Collaborate closely with all members of the coding team to maintain uniform coding standards across the Trust.

Utilise Standard Classifications: Apply the ICD 10 (5th edition) and OPCS classifications with a high standard of proficiency and timeliness.

Monitor Un-Coded Episodes: Oversee the status of un-coded episodes on the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, ensuring that all team members are aware of these episodes and the target completion dates.

Commit to Continuous Learning: Engage in lifelong learning and be adaptable to changes in the field.

Pursue Professional Qualifications: Work towards obtaining the NCCQ ACC qualification.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are;

The provision of an efficient and high quality clinical coding service and meeting Trust deadlines associated with Clinical Coding

Working as part of a team, contributing to the development of the team, and engaging with clinicians to promote Clinical Coding across the Trust

Learning Clinical Coding Standards and Anatomy and Physiology

Study for the NCCQ Clinical Coding ACC qualification and examination

GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent qualification or knowledge
