Your new company 
Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting an Ofsted rated "Good" children and young peoples healthcare provider as they are looking to recruit movitated and experienced learning mentors for full-time temporary to permanent contracts. This is a school based role, supporting young people between the ages of 4 - 19 with complex ASD across all key stages. This is a full-time 35 hour contract with working hours between 08:45 - 16:45.

Your new role 
In your new role as a learning mentor you will be working in a specialist SEN school in the heart of Chester city centre. You will be supporting students with complex Autistic Spectrum Disorders in some classes, reaching 6 pupils at the most. You will take a person-centred approach to learning, as to ensure that the needs of each student are met and that their individual EHCP's are accounted for. Due to the needs of the young people, they will at times present behaviours that challenge, you will work effectively with colleagues and teachers to manage these behaviours whilst also supporting students on a 1:1 and group basis. As a large number of pupils are non-verbal, you will use Makaton and PECs to communicate.

What you'll need to succeed 
In order to be successful with your application you must have a minimum of 6 months referenceable experience supporting children and young people in the last two years, as well as:

  • Be willing to learn and progress in your career
  • Be willing to work towards an NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification in children's care, learning and development
  • Have previous experience supporting young people with ASD
  • Previous experience with Makaton and/or PECs is advantageous but not essential
