Key Purpose

Reporting to the Financial Controller of the Clean Energy & Environmental Solutions (CE&ES) business unit, the purpose of this role is to support the Finance Controller in ensuring the finance function is well controlled and performing efficiently and effectively. This will include the management of the transaction processing team, management accounting and reporting for subsidiary entities, and supporting the Financial Controller in ensuring that accounting policies and procedures are correctly applied. The role will require the development of strong relationships with the finance team and practice staff across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Day to day management, support and development of transaction team of 7 (sales invoicing, accounts payable and employee expenses), supported by the Accounts Payable Manager. Management of accounting for smaller worldwide subsidiaries (including UAE, Saudi and Spain), in either preparer or review role. Liaison with external auditors in respect of the audits of these entities. Preparation of consolidated period and year end reporting internally and to parent company. Preparation of annual statutory accounts for some group entities and assist in the preparation of main company stat accounts. Lead on the intercompany accounting process, looking to deliver simplification whilst meeting statutory requirements. Improve systems, processes and reporting within the team to ensure it is running in the most efficient and effective way, develop new reports. Assist with payroll reviews, approval and reporting. Assist with the provision of information for audits (internal and external) and lead. Ensure compliance with internal controls. Preparer/reviewer of balance sheet reconciliations. Ensure compliance to tax, VAT and other statutory requirements: preparation or management of various returns and source tax advice. Support annual budget process including insurance data with inputs from FD, FC and Head of FP&A. Responsibility for finance SharePoint site. Provide support for wider finance team during peak times and periods of leave. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role.

Competencies and Experience

The Assistant Financial Controller will be a commercially focused, qualified or finalist (ACCA/CIMA/ACA). Knowledge of statutory accounts and working as part of a multi-national group. Strong analytical and IT skills and the willingness to work as a team. Knowledge of VAT and tax would be beneficial. Experience of Agresso/Unit 4 ERP and CCH Tagetik – but not essential. Experience of process automation.

Skills and Behaviours

You will need to be able to liaise and influence at all levels. In addition, possess excellent attention to detail and ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise work and meet deadlines. Ideally, you will have strong knowledge of group accounting and experience of managing and motivating a team.
