Job Description

Community Coordinator 

Purpose : In this role you will help to foster a sense of community and belonging for refugees and asylum seekers through the provision of social groups, activities and events. These include weekly language classes, a womens group and regular activities like our Cooking & Eating Together. 

Responsible to : Refugee Roots Charity Director

Location: Unit 16, Clarendon Chambers, 32 Clarendon Street, Nottingham NG1 5LN and various other Nottingham locations

Working Relationships: Asylum seekers & Refugees, Refugee Roots Charity Director, Staff Team, Volunteers and the Trustees. The general public, our volunteers, and other agencies and partners working in the area. 

Hours of work :  

Hours of work 24 hours per week,

Tuesday 9am to 5pm (7.5)

Wednesday 9.15am to 5.15pm (7.5)

Thursday 9am to 1pm

Friday 9.30am to 1.30pm

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Hours of work are subject to change. 

Contract Length 12 months

Salary £15, 

Start date As soon as possible

Refugee Roots helps asylum seekers and refugees build relationships and navigate the complexities of building a new life in the UK Launched in as The Rainbow Project, based on the vision of St. Stephen's Church in Hyson Green, Refugee Roots continues to be motivated and inspired by Christian faith. 

Refugee Roots welcomes everyone, valuing each person and their culture, embracing equality and diversity while empowering and supporting those that need it most A range of empowerment initiatives include befriending, accompanying asylum seekers to appointments, information, advice and guidance, as well as supportive groups and activities, such as free English conversation classes.

Role Description

To provide a safe and welcoming environment for asylum seekers and refugees with a commitment to supporting their integration and independence in society.

Coordinate the provision of group sessions that build confidence, develop skills, and reduce isolation, including working with and organising volunteers at activities and projects

Supporting communications, and social media messaging to share information with participants and demonstrate the impact of funded projects and activities

To work in partnership with Christian charities, organisations, churches and other faith groups and community organisations. 

Lead on the administration of the monitoring and evaluation of funded projects and activities 

Support reporting to funders.

Develop and maintain up to date risk assessment for all activities

Participate in own professional development including supervision, appraisal and appropriate training as agreed with line manager; 

Attend meetings with other agencies on behalf of Refugee Roots as and when required.

Participate in staff meetings, away days, training, Charity events Annual General Meeting, Vision Day and other significant events. 

Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the post, subject to the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature will be incorporated into the Job Description in specific terms, following consultation with the post holder.

3.3 Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Email, Databases and online.


3.4 Ability and willingness to use available support systems (e.g. supervision, training)


3.5 Can demonstrate the ability to monitor and evaluate the impact of projects and support

3.6 Public speaking abilities
