Position: Yard Supervisor

Reporting To: Yard Manager / Operations Manager

Job Summary:

The Yard Supervisor at Brett Martin will oversee the daily operations and management of the yard, ensuring that all activities are carried out efficiently and safely. The role involves supervising staff, managing inventory, coordinating logistics, and maintaining a high standard of operational performance. The Yard Supervisor will play a crucial role in maintaining order, safety, and efficiency in the yard area.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities:

Staff Supervision and Management:

• Lead, supervise, and coordinate the activities of yard personnel.

• Schedule shifts, manage time-off requests, and ensure adequate staffing levels.

• Provide training and development opportunities for yard staff.

• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Inventory and Stock Management:

• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely replenishment of stock.

• Oversee the organization and storage of materials, ensuring they are stored safely and in compliance with company standards.

• Conduct regular inventory checks and audits to maintain accuracy.

Logistics Coordination:

• Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.

• Liaise with drivers, customers, and suppliers to manage delivery schedules and resolve any issues.

• Ensure all relevant documentation for shipments and deliveries is accurate and properly maintained.

Health and Safety Compliance:

• Implement and enforce health and safety policies and procedures within the yard.

• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

• Ensure all staff are trained on health and safety protocols and use of equipment.


Operational Efficiency:

• Develop and implement processes to improve yard operations and reduce inefficiencies.

• Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track yard performance.

• Resolve operational issues promptly to minimise disruption and downtime.

Equipment Maintenance:

• Ensure all yard equipment is maintained in good working condition.

• Schedule regular maintenance and repairs as needed.

• Keep detailed records of equipment maintenance and inspections.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a yard or warehouse setting.

• Education: 5 GCSE’S including English and Maths. Additional qualifications in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field are advantageous.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and team management skills.

• Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.

• Proficiency in inventory management systems and software.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

• Ability to operate yard equipment such as forklifts (certification may be required).

Working Conditions:

• This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Physical demands include lifting, carrying, and operating heavy equipment.

• The Yard Supervisor may be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, depending on operational needs.
