Job responsibilities

Thiskey, senior post within the research team will focus on driving businessdevelopment activities and in particular on expanding MYTTs hosted researchgrant activity and industry research.

The priorityfor this new role is to drive the development and implementation of strategiesto enhance our hosted research portfolio and foster collaborations to increaseresearch income to the Trust.

Identifyingresearch grant funding opportunities and writing fundable grant applicationsare key elements of the role.

Thepostholder will provide expertise to clinical researchers, and clinicalacademics in grant writing and management. The post holder will be the firstpoint of contact at the beginning of the home grown research process and willguide and co-ordinate staff in identifying the support requirements for eachproject and facilitating access to that support via the submission of requeststo the most relevant funding bodies.

The ResearchBusiness Development Manager will oversee the co-ordination of the day-to-daymanagement of the research grant application process across the Trust. Thiswill form part of the core process for the award of research grantfunding.

Thepost holders research knowledge and project management skills will ensure awell-informed, coordinated support mechanism to support the clinical divisions throughthe submission of the funding application to the delivery of a successfulresearch project.

Thepost holder will work closely with academic partners as well as researchfunders. They will build relationships with universities to create morecollaboration and grant opportunities.

Thepost holder will also work as an integral member of the Research Management andSupport team, acting as the main contact for commercial companies andbusinesses who want to work with the Trust. They will oversee the commercialportfolio and ensure opportunities are maximised.

Asthe Business DevelopmentManager, you will work closely with theResearch Finance Manager to determine the financial cost of the pre-awardresearch grant applications ensuring that all the costs for undertaking theresearch grant are accounted for and are accurately attributed. The post holder will liaise with clinical andacademic departments across MYTT and external partner organisations whererequired, ensuring accurate costs are obtained, and guiding applicants throughthe application process.

Thepost holder will support research grants through their lifecycle, from initialexpressions of intention to apply for funding through to grant close down. Thepost holder will coordinate and oversee the post-award management of the awardsin conjunction with Research Management & Support colleagues.

Thepost holder will be responsible for the monitoring, tracking and updating theResearch Data Management System (EDGE) through the lifetime of the grant award.The post holder will liaise with researchers both internal and external to MYTTand particularly with members of the Research Finance Department, Research Deliveryand RM&S teams to ensure the grant runs successfully.

Experience

Essential

Proven experience in planning and conducting research & innovation, including preparing grant and tender applications and research design. Successful grant writing experience. Experience of seeking and capitalising on research funding opportunities. Proven experience and track record in the delivery of operational and strategic business plans. Management experience within a complex organisation. Experience of line managing and the development of staff. Experience of project development and subsequent implementation. Experience of managing resource allocation. Experience in managing complex data. Evidence of working to key performance targets and delivering benefits.

Desirable

Personal research experience. Experience of academic writing and publication. Significant experience of clinical research management, to include experience in the planning, coordination and conducting of clinical research studies or the management of clinical research.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree at Masters level, or equivalent demonstrable experience in operational management. Evidence of continuing professional development. Project Management Qualification or evidence of equivalent experience.
