Main duties of the job
The Clinical Director will be accountable for the clinical and operational management of the department(s). (S)he will have a key leadership role within the Division, working closely with the Divisional Medical Director, Divisional Director of Performance and Head of Nursing and being responsible for:
·Providing clinical and operational leadership
·Ensuring that services are delivered in a safe effective caring manner.
·Ensuring robust governance arrangements are in place
·Delivering quality and service improvements to eliminate harm.
·Delivering high operational performance.
·Ensuring effective financial management practice through improved efficiency and profitability.
·Delivering effective job-planning and robust appraisal for all doctors within the specialty

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide leadership within the department, ensuring that key performance indicators are met To advocate and support an active research and development culture within the department§To represent the department at a senior level both internally and externally
§To continually review and develop services to improve the quality of patient care and experience
§To continually review and seek to improve efficiency of services.
§To be responsible for the delivery of local and national Key Performance and Quality Indicators.
§To attend management meetings both internally and externally to provide appropriate input and undertake required action.
§To be responsive to the managerial needs of the department and offer flexibility as and when necessary
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Employed at substantive consultant level, working in the acute hospital environment and registered with GMC or qualified doctor in medical management
Experience
Essential criteria
Experience in clinical leadership roles
Skills
Essential criteria
Sound knowledge of clinical governance and effective systems of medical management such as job planning, appraisal and clinical assessment
Personal Skills & Qualities
