Job summary

Would you like to work in a busy Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit unit? An opportunity for Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant to be based on the Local Neonatal Unit at Princess Royal University Hospital Site has become available. The post holder will be expected to work across the Special Care, High Dependency and Transitional Care areas of the unit.

To be eligible for this post you must be an experienced healthcare assistant ideally within Paediatrics/Neonates. You will be expected to provide safe, family centred care to a designated group of neonates and families in a range of care settings under the direction of a Registered Nurse in line with an agreed plan of care.

Main duties of the job

To uphold and display the Trust values of Kind Respectful Team. To provide safe, family centred care to a designated group of patients and families in a specialised care setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse. To play an active role within the multidisciplinary team, communicating and collaborating effectively with both the nursing and medical team as well as a range of other professionals. Identify risks and concerns to safety or experience, taking appropriate action within their scope of practice and escalating to the NIC/Medical Team. Providing breastfeeding advice and support to mothers. Providing feeding support and advice. Attending to cares and feeds. Monitoring and documenting observations, escalating any concerns. Cleaning and maintaining equipment. Re-stocking cupboards and stocks.

Job responsibilities

To provide and monitor safe, family centred care to a designated group of patients, service users and families in a range of care settings under the direction of a Registered Nurse. To support the registered nurse and contribute to the on-going assessment and care planning of patients and service users in order to improve and maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health and well being. To act in the best interests of patients and service users to promote and prevent ill health and contribute to their integrated care. To monitor the condition and health needs of patients and service users on a continual basis in partnership with colleagues, families and carers, referring to others for reassessment, when required. To attend relevant internal/external study days. To comply with the Trusts Safeguarding Children and Adults policies, procedures and protocols. All individual members of staff (paid or unpaid) have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. This will require you to: Ensure you are familiar with and comply with the London Child Protection Procedures and protocols for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. Ensure you are familiar and comply with the London Multi Agency Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Pan London Procedures. Ensure you are familiar and comply with local protocols and systems for information sharing. Know the appropriate contact numbers and required reporting lines. Education and Qualification

Essential

Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English, or GCSE grade A-C or 4-9, O-level grade A-C or have a NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE. Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship or equivalent healthcare qualification such as a NVQ Level 3, a Btec Level 3 or higher. Evidence of completion of the Care Certificate.
