Main duties of the job

SeniorPractitioners DOLS/LPS Specialist Workstream

What will I do in this role?

Working alongsidecolleagues, you will assist NHSDorset in meeting its statutoryrequirements under the Mental Capacity Act. You will complete applications tothe court for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders for people eligible for Continuing Health Care funding.You will support colleagues in making applications and be part of work tosupport excellent practice in the MentalCapacity Act. You will be involved inproviding training, running advice sessions, creating resources and shaping thedevelopment of the MCA Team.

Qualifications

You need to be a qualified social worker, registered nurse, or allied healthprofessional. Ideally, you also need tohold a Best Interest Assessor qualification, but this is not essential.

Experience

You will have a wide breadth of skills and knowledge acrossthe health and/or care system but may have specialist expertise working withpeople who have a learning disability and/or people who live with mental healthconcerns.

You will have specialist knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and be able to write applications to courtfor Community Deprivation of Liberty Ordersthat are of a high standard.

You will have excellent assessment skills and be able toanalyse complex information.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will play a key role insupporting the Personal Health Commissioning Service.

Working within framework of the MentalCapacity Act and the National Frameworkfor NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), the post holder will deliver an effectiveand competent level of service and consistently deliver a client-focusedservice.

NHS Dorset currently offers a hybrid modelof working with a percentage of contracted hours being on site or on visits andthe remainder being home based.

Working within the Framework of the MentalCapacity Act, the successful candidate will primarily be required to undertakeapplications to the Court of Protection for Community Deprivation of LibertyOrders for individuals who are eligible for Continuing Health Care Funding. Thepost holder will therefore need to be familiar with the Community Deprivationof Liberty process and competent in undertaking capacity assessments and infacilitating Best Interests decision making.

There is a significant element of face-to-facework with individuals and their families and carers within the individuals homesetting in this role, and also partnership working across the multidisciplinaryteams supporting individuals.

This role requires the postholder toproduce detailed, person centred and high-quality applications to the Court ofProtection and so requires high levels of attention to detail and an ability toanalyse health, social care, and other agency records to create strong andcongruent applications.

Alongside, completing applications for thecourt, the postholder will also work to support colleagues in other teams toundertake their own applications for Community Deprivation of Liberty Orders.This may include supporting colleagues with capacity assessments and BestInterests processes, offering specialist advice around completing paperwork andthe process generally and acting to scrutinize completed applications and offerfeedback to colleagues on these using a high standard of professional judgement.

The nature of this post will require areasonable level of physical, emotional, and mental resilience, includingshifting and balancing priorities and competing agendas, as well as ongoingexposure to direct emotional circumstances such as dealing with relatives /carers.

The post holder should hold a full UKdriving license and have access to a vehicle to be able to fulfil therequirements of this post.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience working at a similar level in specialist area. Social Work or Nursing qualification and registered with a professional body. Knowledge of NHS Personal Health Commissioning and associated procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge of the National Framework for NHS Personal Health Commissioning and NHS-funded Nursing Care and Childrens and Young Peoples Continuing Care Evidence of Continued Professional Development
