Job summary

We have a new opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational therapist to develop and lead therapy provision on Ward 5 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.

Ward 5 is a 23 bedded unit that supports flow of patients through acute wards on the main Royal Derby Hospital site by taking patients identified for P1 or P2a discharges from all Derby City and Derbyshire areas. Patients have an agreed pathway and a discharge plan in place before transfer to ward 5 where they await their POC or Rehab bed to be sourced.

This is an opportunity for an experienced therapist to support patient progression, reablement, reduction of care needs and discharge preparations. The position supports development of leadership, people management and service development skills. Working to and embedding the philosophy of Making Every Moment Matter for patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be leading a small team, with a rotational B5 and Generic therapy assistant and be expected to have or be willing to develop dual professional OT and Physiotherapy competencies to work generically. The role will encourage you to work flexibly, problem solve effectively and use strength-based skills. Excellent communication and team working skills are essential.

You will work closely with the nursing team, discharge team and ward based GP to promote an enabling approach across the ward to ensure patients remain ready for discharge.

There are established strong links with the MDT on DAU to support timely discharges and clinical supervision and day to day support is in place. There are opportunities to work flexibly outreaching to perform assessments in the patients own environment.

The service is currently Monday to Friday.
