We have an exciting vacancy for a Band 6 senior staff nurse in the Outpatient Village at Guy's Cancer Centre, the unit provides specialist treatment to oncology and haematology patients at every stage of their journey. The nursing team provides an essential support to the patient experience and to the clinicians involved.

The nursing team prides itself on a cohesive multidisciplinary approach to patient care, striving to provide high clinical standards in a supportive environment. The unit is fast paced and challenging and we are looking for a dynamic band 6 to contribute to maintaining high standards of care and to support in leading the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity for an Oncology Outpatient Village Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident and motivated nurse with excellent communication skills and experience of working with oncology patients. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their skills.

The outpatient department at Guy's Cancer Centre is a unit providing specialist treatment to oncology and haematology patients at every stage of their journey. The nursing team provides an essential support to the patient experience and to the clinicians involved.

The successful applicant will be expected to work in partnership within the Oncology Outpatient team. This will provide the opportunity to develop leadership skills, experience working with clinicians and supporting Oncology patients. As a Senior Staff Nurse you will be expected to promote and demonstrate the Trust values and behaviours within your role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist oncology/haematology nursing care.

You will provide clinical supervision to other staff and junior learners including students and apprentice nursing associates. You will help to coordinate care on the unit and support others in the team to do so, acting as a role model by adhering to the Trust values and holding others to the same standard. 

You will take part in unit-based audits, contribute to clinical change and support clinical excellence. You will also contribute to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of services users, by always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.

RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
