Job summary

The Children's Physiotherapy Service is based at St Mary's Hospital. It provides comprehensive acute services across paediatric and neonatal inpatients and children's musculoskeletal outpatients and is contracted by CLCH to provide children's physiotherapy community services to North Kensington and Chelsea and Central and North Westminster localities. This post holder has a clinical leadership role with specific responsibility for the development and provision of physiotherapy services within Paediatric Intensive Care (PICU) and acute paediatrics, including the training and development of staff. The post holder shares responsibility for the clinical leadership and development of inpatient children's physiotherapy services alongside two other band 7 Acute Children's Physiotherapists, including staff clinical supervision and development. Excellent teamwork, communication skills and a passion for teaching are vital for this role.

The in-patient children's physiotherapy team provide a 7 day service to the 15 bedded PICU, Paediatric Accident & Emergency and specialist paediatric services Infectious Diseases, Haematology, Neurology, and two children's wards admitting children with a variety of conditions (respiratory, orthopaedic, surgical and neurological).Close working relationships exist between the acute and community teams in order to provide continuity of care for children living within the area. Service and professional development opportunities and Quality Improvement projects are encouraged and well supported.

Main duties of the job

The post holder may lead a team and be responsible for providing an advanced standard of care to patients at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, which covers a multi-cultural and diverse population. The post holder will supervise the work of other more junior staff and support workers. The post holder may be rotational and will be expected to work across all sites of the ICHNT. The post holder will assist the Clinical Lead in contributing to the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the service. Together with other senior staff, you will act as a resource of specialist advice to the rest of the therapy service and other professions.

For therapy services where there is current weekend working, the post holder is required to work at weekends as part of their contracted hours of work once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
