Job summary

Anexcellent opportunity has arisen, for the role of Prescription Clerk in our friendly, supportive and highly regarded training practice.

The role holder will beresponsible for the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests forthe entitled population, liaising effectively with all relevant personnel.

Main duties of the job

Duties can include, but are not limited to, the processing of repeat prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests. In addition, the post holder will be required to support the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the strategic objectives of the organisation are met.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities ofthe Prescription Clerk. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry outother tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffinglevels:

a.Processrepeat prescription requests received by phone, email, post, slips and theonline access system, in accordance with practice protocol

b.Produceprescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe

c.Ensureall prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a72-hour timeframe

d.Generaterequests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items

e.Activelyencourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections

f.Discusswith patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what theyrequire

g.Actupon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician

h.Ensuremedication reviews are arranged by maintaining an accurate recall system

i.Effectivelyliaise with external services, , district nurses, to ensure medicaments arearranged for housebound patients

j.Inputdata into the patients healthcare records as necessary

k.Dealwith all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner

l.Recordand report adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the practicemanager immediately

m.Datainput onto Emis

n.Carryout system searches as requested

o.Maintaina clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

In addition to the primary responsibilities,the Prescription Clerk may be requested to:

a.Supportthe practice clinical pharmacist as required

b.Partakein audit as directed by the audit lead

c.Supportthe deputy practice manager in reviewing and updating the organisationsprescribing policy

d.Completeopening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent

Desirable

GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above) NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
