Pineapple Contracts opened their doors for the first time in 1975. A family run company, started by William Hathorn, Pineapple began making pine furniture for the retail market and traded as, ‘Pine Productions’.

In 1987, Pine Productions moved their focus to the healthcare furniture market, having identified a demand for strong, safe and durable healthcare furniture which avoided the ‘institutional’ appearance, common at that time. JOB TITLE: NPD Design Engineer - Furniture

REPORTS TO: Head of Product Development

LOCATION: Aylesford, UK

WORKING HOURS: 8.00am – 4.30pm, Office based

We are seeking an experienced NPD Design Engineer to join our growing Product Development team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented Design Engineer with a qualification in Industrial, Product, or Furniture Design. You should possess strong 3D modelling skills, particularly with SolidWorks, and have experience in bringing furniture designs from concept to production. Excellent problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills are essential for liaising with various stakeholders and ensuring the successful delivery of projects. Familiarity with 3D printing and prototyping will be advantageous but is not a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with our Head of Product Development and NPD team to design innovative furniture designs that meet the specific needs of the healthcare sector.
  • Transform concept visuals into detailed designs, progressing through to prototype stages to final production-ready models.
  • Ensure designs are functional, durable and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Produce accurate and detailed 3D models of the furniture using Solidworks to generate drawings for manufacture, prototype, and rendered images as required.
  • Utilise 3D printing and other prototyping methods to develop and test design concepts. Knowledge of these technologies is useful but not essential.
  • Maintaining internal records in the product database of the jobs.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and internal staff to ensure a smooth flow of the product development and projects dealing with any issues or queries as they arise.
  • Driving key new product projects forward to a given target date and budget.

Requirements

  • You are qualified in Industrial/Product/furniture design to degree level or equivalent Design engineering qualifications with experience working in a similar furniture Design Engineer role.
  • Experienced in producing detailed drawings and designs for manufacture.
  • Good manufacturing knowledge in furniture or an equivalent industry. Rotational or injection moulding is an advantage.
  • Excellent technical and engineering experience.
  • Have excellent experience with CAD packages – Solidworks (essential) Fusion 360 & Autodesk Inventor (advantageous).
  • An excellent understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes.
  • Passionate about the brand, a positive attitude, and a matching commitment to innovate.
  • Self-motivated and organised with excellent attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and working to tight deadlines.
