Customer Sampling Technician

We are looking for a Customer Sampling Technician to join Thames Water permanently.

You will be working on the front line and be the face of Thames Water to our customers. Every year, we carry out over 500,000 tests on samples of water that we routinely collect from our treatment works, reservoirs, and randomly selected customer properties, to ensure your drinking water is of the highest quality.
  • Base Location: Oxford OX2 9NS.
  • Working Pattern: Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 3:35 pm.
  • You will take part in an out-of-hours roster which includes weekend working on a rota basis (1 working weekend in 5) for which you will receive additional payment.
  • Offering a starting salary from £27,722 per annum.
  • As this role involves travelling you will receive a company vehicle and a fuel card therefore, a FULL UK licence is essential.

What you’ll be doing as a Customer Sampling Technician
  • Maintain sampling equipment to UKAS and DWI Standards, to ensure the drinking water meets the standards set out in the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000.
  • Update sampling records to UKAS and DWI standards via the Sample Manager system and on-site records, to provide transparency in Thames Water’s, water quality processes to meet audit requirements.
  • Through cold calling to Thames Water customers provide solid reasoning to enter customer homes, to ensure the sampling monitoring programmes' targets are met. This provides reassurance from source to tap.
  • Respond to customer concerns, complaints and queries, within hours or out of hours, to provide great customer care as the face of Thames Water to the customer.
  • This role involves extensive travel between customers and sites, and you will be working as part of a busy team across a wide geographical area.
  • It will be your responsibility to take water samples from water reservoirs and customers, you’ll oversee managing the maintenance of your sampling records and sampling equipment to industry standards.

What should you bring to the role
  • Have the confidence to ‘cold call’ upon residential and commercial properties.
  • As the role requires travelling, A FULL UK manual driving license is required.
  • Ability to plan journeys efficiently as well as good driving knowledge.
  • Be organized and work well on your initiative as well as a team.
  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Have existing knowledge or be open to learning about the water industry and processes relevant to this area of work.
  • Be fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems and office software.
  • Demonstrate good business/stakeholder awareness, together with an innovative and creative approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
