The BCUHB Older Adult Clinical Psychology Service is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced band a Clinical Psychologist, or band Clinical Psychologist as part of fully supported development post. The post is to be based and work in the county of Conwy (Bryn Hesketh, Colwyn Bay).

This is a very exciting opportunity to join a well-established department, with excellent clinical and research links with the School of Psychology and the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) Department at the University of Wales, Bangor. The BCUHB Older Adult Psychology department consists of a friendly and supportive team of colleagues spread out across North Wales but with excellent ongoing peer support and supervision, where the successful candidate will be well supported, mentored, and provided with further opportunities for training and advancement. The post holders will also benefit from cross-specialty BCUHB wide links across North Wales, with opportunities for research and clinical networking in both North Wales and All Wales wide. The countryside of North Wales offers an excellent quality of life with both the great outdoors on your doorstep or alternatively easy links to the more cosmopolitan hubs of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent a or band development post, and the post holder will be expected to provide specialist clinical input and support to both the Memory Assessment Service MDT and the Older People’s Community Mental Health Team (OPMH CMHT). For successful applicant recruited to a band developmental post, the post holder will be able to progress from band to a once they demonstrate that they meet the competencies for band a level.

The role is varied, interesting and involves delivering tailored individual and group psychological therapies to an Older Adult clinical population, undertaking specialist neuropsychological assessment and formulation, and pre- and post-diagnostic support and intervention. As well as providing direct clinical input to clients, this will also involve working through others by training, supervision, and formulation work. The post holder will be expected to integrate well and form good working relationships with their multi-disciplinary (MDT) colleagues, providing specialist psychological knowledge, expertise and consultation to the team. It will also involve attendance at clinical MDT meetings, team referral meetings and service-wide business meetings. Enthusiasm and commitment are essential.
