Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistants/ Housekeeper. We have a 24 hour per week position available. The working patterns are based over a 7 day week, working an internal rotation.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for babies, parents and relatives and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. As part of the Unit team responsible for the coordination of all the facilities in the ward area to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment is maintained as determined by the Lead Nurse and/or Shift Leader.

The post holder will work independently performing several clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competencies within role as per policy and procedure.

The post holder will ensure cleaning, catering, linen, and minor maintenance standards meet the individual patient’s needs. They will need to report promptly to the person in charge of the department any deficiencies so that appropriate action can be taken. 

The role will initially be offered as a Band 2 position. On completion of the NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare, the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network nonclinical support worker course and clinical competencies set out by the your line manager you will progress to the Band 3 role.

Respect privacy, dignity and beliefs. Acts in a way that supports equality and diversity value Work as part of the team in a co-operative, professional and constructive manner Be actively involved in health promotion such as: Smoking cessation, Infant feeding choices

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Evidence of basic level qualification in English and Maths or able to demonstrate equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in healthcare NWNODN nonclinical support worker course or equivalent

Experience

Comprehensive post training experience Demonstrates awareness of what neonatal care involves Experience of working with babies under 3 months of age Willingness to undertake further study and development Work experience within the role of housekeeper or similar appropriate post

Desirable criteria

Previous experience on a neonatal unit Experience of caring for newborn babies Previous experience of team working

Skills

Essential criteria

Basic IT, written and verbal communication skills Able to manage and prioritise work load without direct supervision Basic level of decision making autonomy Ability to recognise limits to own knowledge and skills and take steps to seek help Teaching skills in parentcraft and health education Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with parents and the multidisciplinary team. Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care settings

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Evidence base for current NNU practice Knowledge of current issues impacting on Neonatal care. Awareness of the Quality Improvement programmes within Neonatal Services Able to recognise potentially stressful situations and help deal with appropriately Ability to work within multidisciplinary team

Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation Willingness to work across paediatric wards if required
