Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist or Psychological Therapist to join the Richardson Eating Disorder Service at an important period of expansion. This post will provide the opportunity to work within the community setting as part of our new Intensive Day Service at home treatment pathway as well as other areas of the pathway, inpatients, when required. The IDS@ home treatment pathway aims to support people who struggle with eating difficulties where travel to a centralised day service is proving difficult or whose clinical need requires a more bespoke package of care.

The Richardson Eating Disorder (REDS) is a regional specialist eating disorder service for adults experiencing eating disorders. The area covered by the post will be the wide geographical area covered by CNTW andmay include a combination of online and face to face appointments. REDS has a well-established track record of delivering care and treatment in inpatient and day-patient settings and have recently expanded to deliver care and treatment to adults in the community who are experiencing eating distress.

There will be opportunities for the post holder to work as part of an MDT offering individual and group therapies alongside holistic assessments to help people make sense of their difficulties and inform team formulation approaches.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is responsible for providing a specialistpsychology service to clients both within a community and inpatient setting, providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation.

The post holder will provide specialist psychological services to adults experiencing eating difficulties with an emphasis on NICE recommended interventions, recommendations based on research and the wider evidence base PEACE pathway and formulation driven approaches.

The post holder will keep up to date with new innovations in the field of eating disorders.

The post holder will fulfil all the main duties of a Band 7 Psychologist/ Therapist, including holding a specialist case load, keeping up to date with Mandatory Training and CPD, supporting research within the service, and contributing to service evaluation and research. The post holder will also work closely with carers, family members, and stakeholders working with eating disorder services, university mental health services.

The post holder will be qualified, or demonstrate a willingness to train, in psychological models recommended for people experiencing eating disorders MANTRA, SSCM or CBT-E.

The post holder is expected to be familiar with and have some knowledge of all the main psychological models currently recommended in the treatment of adults experiencing eating disorders. The post holder will have experience of, and developed skills in, establishing therapeutic relationships with people who can be ambivalent regarding change and level of engagement.

The post holder will be familiar with working autonomously with patients who carry a high level of risk due to their physical and mental health. The post holder will be experienced in working collaboratively with other professionals.

The post holder will have experience of working within the NHS.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology (or relevant other training) as accredited by the British Psychological Society and the HCPC. HCPC registered practitioner psychologist

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, including severe and enduring mental health problems, psychosis and personality disorder. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possibility of physical abuse.

Desirable

Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

Skills and Competencies

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management Skills in evidence based psychological interventions.
