Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist who wishes to develop their clinical skills in Pelvic Health practice, working hours per week as part of a supportive, friendly and passionate team. The post holder will be offered training and professional development opportunities to develop their skills in pelvic health (prior experience in MSK outpatients is required if no previous experience in pelvic health). Prior experience of working in the NHS at undergraduate or postgraduate level is essential. They will be expected to contribute to service development.

The physiotherapists specialising in Pelvic Health work very closely with the Urogynaecology, Colorectal, Gastroenterology Consultant led teams, Continence nurses, Midwives and dieticians. This makes for an interesting mix of outpatient caseload. The service also runs a range of rehabilitation and education classes and is a regional centre of the delivery of posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS).

The successful applicant will be an effective team player, have the ability to use their initiative and communicate with empathy. They will embrace innovation and integrated working, and be committed to following best practice to ensure patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

Work as an autonomous practitioner in providing physiotherapyassessment and treatment of a range of pelvic health conditions (obstetric, gynaecological, colorectal) to your own designated caseload of patients. This is provided both on-site and also within community clinics without direct supervision. You will be expected to maintain up to date physiotherapy records. Use evidence based principles / current best practise and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions Fully participate in CPD and other service development activities Regularly supervise, teach and support more junior staff Deputise for the physiotherapy team leader during their absence

Successful candidate needs to hold a Physiotherapy Diploma/Degree leading to inclusion on HCPC Physiotherapy register. Successful candidates will be required to work across a number of sites to deliver an effective pelvic health physiotherapy service including hospital outpatient departments, inpatient obstetric ward cover, commercial gym working and remote working.

Clinical Responsibilities:

To be able to manage and prioritise your own designated clinical caseload, running to time in an outpatient setting and working as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision. To undertake assessment and treatment of a wide variety of acute and chronic obstetric musculoskeletal and gynaecology related conditions. To perform internal examinations for the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor conditions. To monitor and evaluate treatment to measure progress and to ensure effectiveness of the intervention and to identify quickly when treatment requires modifying and to recognise when advice/assistance from clinical specialist is required. To communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and stakeholders regarding patient care and service development. To work as a lone practitioner with telephone support from a senior therapist if required.

Research/Audit/Quality

To evaluate your own clinical effectiveness. To undertake and present relevant service improvement and evidence based projects including contribution to in service training programme.

IT

To be responsible for the accurate input of clinical information onto the trust IT system.

Health, safety and security

To complete relevant risk assessments and associated documentation/action. To demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessments and interventions including manual physiotherapy techniques. This involves frequent light to moderate physical effort.

Organisational Responsibilities

To demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills during daily management of own workload and to be able to adapt flexibly to sudden changes in workload. To ensure timely communication of assessment findings, treatment and outcomes to other involved disciplines through the provision of reports, discharge letters and onward referrals. To be involved with the induction, teaching and supervision of other physiotherapy staff and contribute to their performance assessment by providing feedback to their seniors.

This job involves regular exposure to unpleasant working conditions - body fluids including urine and faeces.

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma/Degree leading to inclusion on HCPC Physiotherapy register. Evidence of relevant post registration training and professional self-development in Pelvic Health or MSK.

Experience

Essential

Postgraduate experience assessing and treating musculoskeletal or pelvic health conditions Experience of managing own caseload and prioritising and delegating Experience of working in the NHS setting at undergraduate or postgraduate level

Desirable

Experience in managing patients referred with women's health conditions (obstetric, gynaecology & bowel problems) Experience in running education and exercise classes

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Knowledge and understanding of a range of treatment approaches in Pelvic Health Knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and policies, and their implications to clinical practice Ability to carry out highly advanced range of assessments and procedures and use clear clinical reasoning to make a diagnosis, treatment and management plan
