Main duties of the job

The Targeted Lung Health Check Project, a pivotal initiative led by NHSE, aims to detect lung cancer at its early stages, thus saving lives and enhancing the well-being of individuals aged between 55 and74, who currently smoke, or have a history of smoking in the past. As a band 6 TLHC Nurse, you will play a crucial role in this nationwide screening program, facilitating early intervention and promoting respiratory health.

Whilst we are primarily seeking nurses in the Hampshire area, we also welcome expressions of interest from nurses across the UK. Once an opportunity arises in your area we will be able to reach out to you.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive assessments, either remotely via telephone, or face-to-face, examining and evaluating medical history, smoking status, and demographics, to determine the participants eligibility to have a low-dose CT scan for their chest. Deliver exceptional nursing care, including respiratory assessment and smoking cessation advice. Provide health promotion integral to lung health checks, fostering awareness and prevention. Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns promptly and professionally. Manage patients presenting with red flags or potential medical emergencies with precision and efficiency. Maintain IR(ME)R accreditation for referral to low-dose CT scans. Attain and maintain ARTP accreditation for spirometry where required. Collaborate with TLHC teams as needed, working autonomously to ensure seamless patient care. Complete mandatory trainings as required by the TLHC Programme. Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Up-to-date registration as an adult registered nurse. Minimum of two years' experience post qualification in a clinical setting. Valid right to work in the UK (visa or settled, pre-settled status if non-UK passport). Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development. Excellent communication skills written, verbal, and listening. Proficient in various IT software packages. Value diversity, operate with integrity, and embrace openness. Willingness to undergo further training to support professional development and meet service needs.

Desirable

Ability to travel to hospital trust or mobile CT scan unit etc if required. Respiratory care setting experience. Evidence of detailed patient history taking.
