Alexandria, United Kingdom NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

In order to apply to for this position you must have a live pin with the NMC UK.

Applications from 2024 Newly Qualified Nurse/Midwife, will not be considered for this post.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Saturday (long days).

Staff Nurse Band 5, 37 hours, worked as long days, Monday – Saturday. This post is for the Renal Dialysis Unit based within Vale Of Leven General Hospital.
The unit is predominately a nurse led haemodialysis unit providing treatment to patients with end stage kidney disease, though weekly outpatient renal clinics also take place within the unit.

The unit is a very friendly and welcoming outpatient area. It is part of the wider renal services, which consist of 6 outpatient haemodialysis units spread throughout various GGC sites, a community home therapies unit and the main 65 bed inpatient and immediate assessment unit housed on level 4 of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Previous haemodialysis experiences is preferable, but not essential, as teaching and training will be provided, the post is therefore an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse who would like to extend their personal skill set and knowledge within the renal nursing field. Trainees will be provided with the support of a mentor, detailed training plan and work base learning materials.

The successful candidate will work within the nursing and multi professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a defined patient group. You will competently perform the necessary technical aspects of care. You will assess patient needs – plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based programs of care for patients with renal conditions, in collaboration with the wider renal team.

You will provide support to patients and their carer’s in all aspects of haemodialysis treatment taking into consideration the lifestyle, race, gender and cultural background of this patient group.

Applicants considering this post should be aware that there are plans for the unit to expand by opening a twilight dialysis session and therefore potential applicants will be expected to rotate from days to twilight shifts.

Details on how to contact the Recruitment Service can be found within the Candidate Information Packs.
