We have a great opportunity for a Business Analyst to join our Electricity North West Services team in Blackburn on an 18 month fixed term contract.

Our role

As a Business Analyst you will work with business stakeholders/colleagues, external partner organisations and internal support teams to deliver solutions aligned with business strategies and needs. As part of the role, you will demonstrate an informed knowledge of the business to resolve problems on an ongoing basis. You will have expertise in the business capabilities and product lines you support, as well as a detailed understanding of the directorate’s systems, processes, and capabilities. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality solutions.

To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the things you could expect to do:

  • You will take innovative suggestions and outputs from user communities, turn them into solutions including writing impact & options assessments and making recommendations, including an assessment of associated risk.
  • Support the production of project mandates and business cases.
  • Be responsible for gathering, compiling and synthesising information with regard to business processes or systems.
  • Work closely with the business SMEs & IT experts to document business capabilities, business processes, as well as understanding business change requirements and goals.
  • Be responsible for business requirements gathering, documentation and management for the development and enhancement of business capabilities.
  • Produce deliverables related to the project(s) and changes assigned; assures specifications are in line with agreed standards and maturity.
  • Translate high level business requirements into detailed functional and non-functional business and system requirements, assesses and evidences they are adequately met by functional specifications delivered by IT providers, both internal and external.
  • Be responsible for using appropriate tools and techniques to develop stakeholder engagement plans
  • Develop user test cases and validates test results during user acceptance testing.
  • Update documentation of processes, create re-usable and shareable assets. Undertake task analysis, interviewing colleagues and stakeholders, coordinating workshops and documenting feedback.
  • Assist in post implementation support & embedding; system enhancements; supports establishment of best practice business analysis.
  • Responsible for contributing to the selection of appropriate modelling tools & techniques to design and describe business processes and systems
  • Responsible for contributing to effective change management by ensuring appropriate application of the agreed change framework, planning pilots and trials, planning of cutover & rollback activities; responsible for issue triage, and defect management.


What we’re looking for

To apply for this Business Analyst role, you will require the following:

  • Excellent business analysis capabilities with ideally two years’ experience in IT Systems
  • High degree of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences in a clear manner
  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with senior managers and influence key decision makers
  • An assertive approach will be required to develop solid, effective relationships with the service provider
  • Analytical thinker with attention to detail and methodical approach to work
  • Problem solving acumen and broader business change experience, particularly the ability to understand the wider impact of a change from both an application and business perspective
  • Effective planning and organisational skills to manage concurrent project workload
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure, balancing competing resource needs with a proven ability to deliver to challenging timescales
  • Significant experience in a Business Analysis environment with expert knowledge of Business Analysis techniques and tools with a full appreciation of when and where to use them e.g. group facilitation, process mapping, task analysis
  • Proven background of understanding & documenting business requirements and aligning them to solutions -
  • Practical experience in delivering projects and/or programmes of work
  • Good understanding of business drivers, priorities and risks associated with delivery of business change within a utilities environment
