About the Role:

GSL Education are currently seeking an English Specialist in hull, the school has set clear expectations for behavior, attendance, and timeliness in addition to having high standards for Academy curriculum. Your role involves overseeing the English curriculum and fostering a supportive learning environment where students can develop their language, literacy, and critical thinking skills. Take advantage of this opportunity to shape the development of the future generation in the innovative and cooperative learning environment at GSL, and gain invaluable support in the process.

Role of an English Specialist:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the English curriculum in alignment with national standards and the school's vision and priorities.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues to ensure coherence, progression, and relevance in the delivery of English education across all key stages.
  • Create and present stimulating and demanding English classes that encourage student participation and motivate learning by utilizing a range of instructional techniques, materials, and technological tools.
  • . Promote literacy across the curriculum by embedding reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills into subject-specific contexts and encouraging a culture of reading for pleasure.
  • Implement literacy interventions and initiatives to support students' literacy development and improve reading comprehension and writing proficiency.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and attainment in English, providing timely feedback and support to enable students to achieve their potential.
  • Collaborate with local libraries, cultural organizations, and community groups to create enriching opportunities for students to engage with literature and language beyond the classroom

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working as an English Specialist within an educational setting.
  • Original or certified copies of your degree certificates and transcripts relevant to English education, such as a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, English Language, Education, or a related field.
  • Evidence of any additional qualifications, certifications, or postgraduate studies relevant to English teaching, such as a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) or QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  •  Evidence of completion of safeguarding training, such as a certificate or confirmation from a training provider. This demonstrates your understanding of child protection policies and procedures.
  • Hold relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Are passionate about supporting the learning and development of student and making a positive difference in their lives.
