Role Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer within the New Product Development Team, responsible for development of Atlas Copco’s next generation of smart, sustainable and industry leading Self-Pierce Riveting (SPR) equipment. The role is full time permanent, but we are happy to discuss the flexiible working or part time working options.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Design Excellence: You’ll create 3D CAD models and drawings that meet our technical standards but also clearly communicate the design intent to the rest of the business. Your innovation will form the backbone of our next-generation products.Hands-On Testing: Dive into engineering testing activities Assemble test equipment, document test procedures, and collaborate closely with our test engineers. Your practical involvement will drive product excellence.Support Project Success: Collaborate with our lead engineer and project manager/scrum-master to ensure our engineering activities follow our lean-agile development process. Your contributions will keep us on the cutting edge.Data-Driven Innovation: Explore opportunities to integrate data collection and A.I within our existing and future Self Pierce Rivet (SPR) equipment. Your insights will shape the future of our products.Create sustainable designs: Implement methods to reduce our product carbon footprint and energy consumption across the SPR equipment range. Your commitment to sustainability will make a lasting impact.Collaboration with Suppliers: Engage with external suppliers to co-create new products, refine testing processes, and enhance manufacturing solutions. Your partnerships will drive innovation.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential Requirements (You need to be able to evidence all of these):

Formal academic qualification in product design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience in relevant engineering industries.Experience with 3D CAD tools and spreadsheet packages. We use Solid Edge for our product design but don’t worry if you don’t have previous experience – we can provide comprehensive training to get you up to speed.Evidence of implementation of strategies to effectively plan your own time and workload.Previous experience working with and interpreting engineering data, particularly design tolerances and G,D&T, awareness of engineering measurement and inspection techniques.Experience producing high-quality engineering reports and evidence of effective collaboration with engineering colleagues.

Desirable Requirements (You do not need to be able to evidence all of these):

Previous experience either within a professional engineering environment or as part of a formal study programme, demonstrating design development from concept to manufacture.Previous experience of hands-on engineering activities. While any existing experience is advantageous, what truly matters is your enthusiasm to learn and engage.Experience working within an industry supplying machinery for high-production environments (such as automotive).Familiarity with automation and data trends (Industry 4.0, predictive maintenance, implementation of data and A.I.).Experience with instrumentation and electronics either in a hobby or professional setting.
