Main duties of the job

Our surgical theatres cover a wide range of specialities including General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery elective and Trauma, Gynaecology, Urology, Ear Nose and Throat, Vascular, Dental including Inpatient and day surgery admissions. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of surgical skills whilst rotating through multiple surgical specialities beginning their careers at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in the speciality of Orthopaedics. Our Theatres also provides 24 hour emergency cover for the Fylde Coast and beyond.

We are a forward thinking modern Foundation Trust and are looking to recruit a Staff Nurse who is highly motivated, open to change and demonstrates excellent communication skills. As an integral member of the team the post holder will assist and participate in the smooth running of the theatre.

About us

We have ten surgical theatres, three of which are dedicated day surgery. We have a fantastic team of staff and they would support any new member of the team. There would be a period of teaching and training for the successful candidate and we have support from a Practice Development team. There is also the opportunity for rotation between in patient and day case theatres.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Accountable within the theatre team to ensure that the standard of patient care is of a high level, quality being of prime importance. To adhere to and practice within the Nursing and Midwifery/ Health Professional Councils Code of Professional adherence to agreed Trust policies. The position is primarily a theatre practitioner with scrub and circulating duties although some rotation and flexibility will be required to meet service needs. The post-holder will be called upon, occasionally to take charge of the unit/area. The post holder will be expected to participate in internalrotation, weekend, unsocial hours and on call duties. It is a requirement of the post that the post holder be able to attend theatres within 30 minutes when undertaking on callduties.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Registered Nurse level I, II ENB 183/182 Advance certificate in Operating Department Practice (Anaesthetic) NVQ level III/Dip ODP Diploma in Operating Department Practice.

Desirable

Teaching and Assessing qualification

EXPERIENCE

Essential

Experience of working in a critical care environment

Desirable

Current or previous experience in theatre particularly within a scrub practitioner role.
