Counter Terrorism Policing - Prison Intelligence Officer - WMCTU North Hub

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) is a collaboration of UK police forces working with the UK intelligence community to help protect the public and our national security by preventing, deterring and investigating terrorist activity.

About the opportunity:

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team, to ensure the effective gathering of intelligence from HMPS relating to national securing issues, being responsible for providing advice on Counter Terrorism and radicalisation issues to HMPS staff.

The post holder will work closely with existing Force Prison Intelligence Officers in order to deliver the intelligence function effectively. The role is both varied and interesting, providing the opportunity to engage in local, regional and national operations as appropriate.

The post holder’s normal place of work will be Weston Road but given the nature of the work, the post holder may be required to work for periods of time from other locations across the county, region and country.

Essential Experience:

Be able to demonstrate relevant experience of working within an overt/covert intelligence environment or criminal investigations, coupled with a working knowledge of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act . Demonstrate a good knowledge of Counter Terrorist issues including intelligence requirements and can evidence knowledge and understanding of Prison rules, particularly with regards to the Prison environment. Experience of building effective working relationships with a range of key stakeholders including partnership agencies evidencing an ability to succeed in negotiating and influencing others to achieve common goals. Experience of gathering and analysing information from a range of sources demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills, in order to make effective decisions and support action. Experience of proactively seeking out intelligence development opportunities without tasking or guidance. IT literate demonstrating experience of Windows based applications including Microsoft Office packages, with good keyboard skills evidencing the ability to learn and utilise new packages. Experience of working to multiple deadlines and delivering results through effective planning and organising of work demonstrated by the ability to prioritise own time and workload, working methodically, accurately and with minimal supervision. Demonstrate the ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure, displaying attention to detail, thoroughness in approach and concentration for long periods of time. Have excellent communication skills demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a diverse range of people ensuring their needs are identified and met within resources constraints and in writing presenting information which is clear, logical and focused.

Desirable Experience:

It is desirable for the post holder to have completed the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) College of policing. Current PIO experience / experience of working within the Prison Estate environment SC / DV Vetted

Training: Undertake specialist training which will be provided for the role. Be operationally fit with JRFT and OPST & maintain training annually.

This vacancy is open to Officers wishing to transfer into Staffordshire Police. (Relocation costs will not be covered)

You must be employed by a Home Office Force in order to apply.

The role is subject to successful completion of Security Checks.

Successful applicants will be invited in for a competency based interview and you will have to pass a medical, background checks and a job related fitness test.

Additional information

The role requires the post holder to have significant flexibility and a willingness to travel often outside the force area. The post holder must maintain confidentiality and trust at all times regarding information gained in the post.

⚠ This role is subject to successful completion of Developed Vetting.

You must be a British citizen to work for the Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM). If you hold dual nationality, with the primary nationality British, you may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearances of Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82 to of the Police Reform Act . CTP WM will support preferred candidates through the appropriate vetting process.
