We are looking for a Histology Technician to join our growing team within our state-of-the-art Laboratory at Dick White Referrals (DWR) Referral Hospital. The Histology Laboratory Technician is responsible for the processing of histology / surgical biopsy submissions including grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining and general day to day organisation within the histology laboratory. As our laboratory is located within the busy hospital at DWR, lots of our work is from referred patients in house. We also receive samples through other referral hospitals across the UK, along with first opinion samples which provides us with a varied and interesting workload. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a wider clinical team as we move forward under Antech Diagnostics, part of Mars Science and Diagnostics, together making a better world for pets.
Primary duties include:
Macroscopic examination and grossing of veterinary surgical biopsy submissions according to local guidelines and SOPs.
Provide quality embedding according to benchmarks and SOP’s.
Appropriate prioritisation of work such as ensuring flow of urgent cases and monitoring pending lists.
Perform manual stains as required and use of automated stainer.
Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines.
Report any technical/QC problems to a supervisor in an appropriate and timely manner, supporting resolution of issues and problem solving.
Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
Read, understand and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organised work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience.
Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.

Work Experience
Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a diagnostic laboratory.
Bachelors degree in a science related field preferable.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, in a timely manner with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
