Job summary

This role will be fundamental to the delivery and runningof a high quality and effective Targeted Lung Health Check service which willidentify asymptomatic people, providing early diagnosis of both lung cancer andother lung diseases.

The overall purpose of the Lung Cancer Screening Programmeis to enable the early detection of lung cancer to save lives. The targetedlung health check (TLHC) has been implemented throughout the UK in areasidentified with high disease prevalence where significant impact can be madefrom the recognition of early-stage lung cancer & offering curativetreatment.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will help to ensure that theservices we provide to our patients are of the highest possible standard.Delivering TLHC appointments to patients both virtually and face to face. Youwill very much be at the forefront of this exciting, important new programme.

Most of ourestablished current programmes cover a large regional and geographical area socandidates must be prepared and willing to travel to all agreed mobile clinicsfor their area. More information can be provided on this at interview. Our nursingteam provides a 7-day service with bank holiday working included across allprogrammes. Candidates must be adaptable around mobile working, locations ofclinics and willing to work 12-hour shift patterns as our standard workingpattern.

Job responsibilities

What youwill do:

DeliverTLHC lung health clinics to patients both virtually and face to face generatingonward referrals to low-dose CT for high-risk patients.

Ensure thatthatthe services we provide to our patients are of the highest possible standard tomake healthcare better for our patients.

Assistand support the TLHC Team to deliver an effective and seamless service toparticipants who are invited for a lung health check and build In Healthsreputation in this area.

Bea patient facing ambassador for the TLHC programmes, providing high qualityservices and excellent patient centred care.

Demonstratespecialist knowledge and assessment skills of respiratory assessment and deliverhealth promotion and preventative care strategies to patients during the lunghealth check.

Undertakeall mandatory and desired training essential for role and development.

Understandthe TLHC pathway from the patients perspective to ensure services are joinedup by working collaboratively with the Team Lead to develop the service to provideseamless care.

Bea highly visible clinical role model to junior staff and provide a positivelearning environment actively mentoring and working alongside staff in clinicalpractice.

Assist Team Lead with the advice needed to reduce and reportrisks.

Workto all policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in place and activelycontribute to share insight and ideas for service development to improve thepatient pathway and ongoing development and implementation of established and newpolicies as the service evolves.

What you will be responsible for:

The belowindicates the main competencies required of the post which may be reviewed inlight of the experience and developments within the service.

Provide virtual and face to face nurse led TLHC clinics;assessing patients against set risk criteria and referring on to Low-Dose CT asrequired for patients assessed as high risk.

Demonstrate and deliver excellentnursing skills in respiratory assessment and provide smoking cessation nursingadvice delivered as part of the lung health check.

Ability to provide health promotionintegral to the delivery of lung health checks.

Identify and act accordingly toraise any potential safeguarding concerns.

Identify and act accordingly tomanage any patients presenting with red flags or potential medical emergencies.

Maintain IRMER accreditation whichwill be provided during induction (to refer to Low-Dose CT)

Where your role requires it, toattain and maintain ARTP accreditation level (to provide spirometry).

Work autonomously engaging with thewider TLHC teams as needed in the pathway.

Support the Team Lead with allessential clinical administration duties relevant to support the role andeffective running of the programme.

Engage in audit and/or informationcollection where required. Undertake any other duties which are deemedappropriate to the job role when requested by senior staff and utilisePolicies, Procedures and Guidelines; actively supporting the team lead incontributing to their ongoing development and improvement.

Qualifications

Essential

First level registered Nurse. Experience in respiratory nursing. Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development. Have excellent communication skills written, verbal and listening. Have good IT skills, comfortable on a number of different software packages. Be uncompromising on high quality standards. Value diversity and difference, operate with integrity and openness. Work across boundaries, looking for collective success; listen, involve, respect and learn from the contribution of others. Willing to undertake further training to support professional development of TLHC nurse and meet bespoke needs required by the service commissioned.

Desirable

Spirometry experience and or ARTP accreditation and registration. (Training will be provided). IRMER qualification. (Training will be provided). Smoking cessation qualification. (Training will be provided).
