Job summary

Due to an internal secondment, this exciting opportunity to work as an occupational therapist within the Integrated stroke and neurology therapy team has arisen. The team are committed to providing optimum patient care and therefore you will find regular training and support within this post.

The stroke pathway is shared across Bradford and Airedale. The organisations are working together to improve stroke care, therefore there may be future opportunities to work across the whole Bradford and Airedale service.

The therapy teams in Bradford and Airedale have strong networks, sharing learning and training opportunities across both sites with exciting opportunities that lie ahead to develop the Bradford and Airedale teams to become more closely linked across the stroke pathway.

The stroke team is made up of qualified occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, therapy assistants and assistant practitioners. The team deliver therapy interventions to newly diagnosed stroke patients and those with complex neurological conditions to continue their rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

To prioritise, plan and deliver clinical case work within the stroke therapy teamwith support and supervision of a senior therapist. To apply evidence based, knowledge and skills to support patient care within stroke and rehabilitation services. To work in partnership with patients, carers, the MDT, and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services. To work with team members to ensure the effective functioning of the team To participate in quality improvements to improve the stroke and rehabilitation therapy services. Contribute to student training and development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree or equivalent pre-registration award in occupational therapy State registration with the Health Care Professions Council

Desirable

Post graduate courses relevant to occupational therapy. Member of relevant Professional special interest groups/organisations ECDL or formal qualifications in word processing and spreadsheets

Experience

Essential

Relevant and recent undergraduate experience working in a variety of clinical areas and settings Undergraduate experience of multidisciplinary team working and working collaboratively with other professions and agencies

Desirable

Recent post graduate experience within neuro-occupational therapy Experience in use of IT applications Experience of audit and research Experience of service development Experience of working shifts / weekends

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of standardised and non-standardised assessments and treatments relevant to neurological occupational therapy Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance

Desirable

Knowledge of relevant national and local legislation relevant to stroke therapy Knowledge of student education and development of self as an educator
