We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN English Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. This role involves delivering tailored English lessons, addressing individual educational barriers, and helping students develop essential literacy skills. Your expertise will help them thrive academically and socially, ensuring they reach their full potential in a supportive learning environment.

The Role:

As an SEN English Teacher, your key responsibilities will include:

Personalized Learning Support:
  • Support subject tutors with the delivery of their lessons to meet the unique needs of SEND students.
  • Provide 2:1 support.
  • Help student develop essential skills, focusing on improving task comprehension, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Support student in managing distractions related to ADHD and improving their memory and organisational skill to meet deadlines.
  • Implement targeted intervention such as social thinking sessions and relaxation techniques to help students regulate their emotions.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), including SENCOs, support staff, and therapists, to ensure that the EHCP guidance is met. 
  • Attend meetings, communicate regularly with parents and relevant professionals, and contribute to the development of IEPs.
Safeguarding and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure support meets the needs of each student, with a focus on helping them overcome learning barriers and succeed academically.
Proprioception and Sensory Support:
  • Plan and implement daily sensory activities and proprioceptive exercises in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist to support students' self-regulation and focus during lessons.
Training & Professional Development:
  • Minimum Level 4 qualification in supporting children and young people, with a background in SEN education, and training in areas such as anxiety management, sensory programs, emotional literacy, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is essential, ideally with a specialism in English or literacy.
  • Autism awareness and training in emotional regulation, communication, and anxiety support are highly desirable.

  • The role is based in North Leeds, with the option to work from the student’s home or a satellite office located 10 minutes away.
