About the Role

As the Advisor/Recruiter for Undergraduate Programs in the Faculty of Education, you will be pivotal in shaping students’ academic journeys and ensuring their successful progression through their studies. Your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive academic advice to prospective and registered students, helping them align their academic coursework with personal and professional goals. You will also be instrumental in developing and executing student recruitment strategies, participating in information sessions, and collaborating with high schools and colleges to attract a diverse student body.

This role directly contributes to the department’s goals by ensuring students receive the support and guidance needed to succeed while promoting the Faculty of Education’s programs to prospective students. Upcoming projects include enhancing student advising systems and implementing innovative recruitment initiatives that align with SFU’s strategic objectives. Your ability to build relationships and provide tailored advice will drive student success and enrollment growth.

Our ideal candidate is a proactive and empathetic individual with a strong academic advising and student recruitment background. They possess excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, personalized guidance to students. Proficiency in student information systems and experience in developing and executing recruitment strategies are essential. The candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of university policies and procedures, exercise mature judgment, and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education or other relevant discipline with three years of related experience in post-secondary program advising or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Excellent Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while providing tailored academic advice to students. Proficiency in Student Information Systems and Software Applications: Intermediate knowledge of database, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing tools, essential for advising and recruitment activities. Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Expertise in verbal, written, and presentation communication, crucial for advising students and representing the Faculty in recruitment initiatives. Ability to Interpret and Apply University Policies and Processes: Ensures accurate advising and adherence to academic regulations and requirements. Ability to Design and Develop Publication Materials: Competence in creating effective marketing and informational materials for student recruitment and advising.
