Laing O'Rourke / Expanded are currently recruiting for a Senior Digital Build Engineer to support our live and upcoming projects.

Locations: Birmingham, Oxford

We would require 2 days a week site visits, with the remaining time to be spent in a Laing O'Rourke office.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring design partners and subcontractors are briefed on the Level of Information Need (LOIN) prior to the start of stage 4 design and stage 4.5 detailing.
  • Development and agreement of the project Digital Build Scope with the project delivery team including the assignment of scoped items to design partners.
  • Reviewing third party design package interfaces with Digital Build and ensuring that dependencies are considered and captured within project Information Required Schedules (IRS).
  • Ensuring that project IRS aligns with DfMA and reinforcement execution pack issue dates including the requirement for ‘sandwich checking' of DfMA elements with all interfacing model elements.
  • 3D modelling of permanent and temporary works elements as per agreed Digital Build scope.
  •   Input of Digital Build metadata to modelled elements and management of third-party metadata requirements.
  •   Raise RFIs and BimCollab issues generated by Digital Build and Digital Review with relevant design partners.
  • Issuing of coordinated and complete model content for ‘setting-out' on site. Models issued to be used in Quantification exercises and onto Trimble Connect for trades to use for construction.
  • Procure 3D reinforcement modelling from approved detailing specialists, ensuring that models meet specification and provide ‘host' structural concrete models in line with construction programme.
  • Develop and facilitate the running of Solibri automated ruleset checks against all relevant models and interfaces of the Digital Build in line with milestones outlined in the ‘Digital Review of the DfMA interface document'.
  • Preparation of pre-execution pack issue Solibri check reports for inclusion in Precast Detailing Execution packs issued to Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC)
  • Ensure project access to a federated Digital Build Model updated every two weeks as a minimum.
  • Chair two-weekly Digital Build review meetings attended by Project Technical Leads, Project Engineers, DfMA Engineer, PTS Lead, Detailing Lead and Lead Digital Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering discipline (Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering), or other construction related degree.
  • Working towards an industry recognized BIM specific accreditation or structured training, or Chartership.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of applying Digital Build methods on a project or having applied digital tools to enable project teams. Experience across multiple projects and construction methodologies.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of common construction methods.
  • Capable of offering guidance to junior Digital Build, Engineering and Design Management staff.
