Job summary

This role provides high quality pharmaceutical care to our haemato-oncology patients in this busy and friendly department. You will work alongside the MDT and a B7 specialist pharmacist.

You will attend weekly multidisciplinary ward rounds and provide pharmaceutical advice to our patients, haematology consultants, junior medical staff and the haematology nurse specialists. You will also be responsible for training other pharmacists to be able to cover the provision of chemotherapy as required.

Applicants should have experience of working as a Clinical Pharmacist in Cancer Services or Haemato-oncology.

We require you to have a clinical diploma (or equivalent), possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to work conscientiously and innovatively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will be required to participate in the weekend, on-call, late duty and bank holiday rotas.

Main duties of the job

To act as a senior clinical pharmacist for the adult haemato-oncology unit.

To co-ordinate the provision of chemotherapy and other specialist drugs for haemato-oncology patients including day case patients and private patients.

To provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to medical and nursing staff on drugs for haemato-oncology patients.

To train pharmacists in screening and co-ordinating the provision of chemotherapy and other related drugs.

To manage the Trust's e-prescribing system for chemotherapy

To provide specialist pharmaceutical input into prescribing guidelines

Qualifications

Essential

Degree Master of Pharmacy Post Graduate Clinical Diploma Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council Independent prescriber qualification (or willing to undertake)

Experience & Skills

Essential

Comprehensive post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of acute hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing) Significant previous cancer / haemato-oncology experience as a clinical pharmacist on wards/Day Units Chemotherapy experience High degree of computer literacy to be able to input clinical detail into the Trust's e-prescribing system for chemotherapy.

Desirable

Use of hospital electronic prescribing and administration systems, eg Cerner Risk Management
