Main duties of the job

BASED AT MMP SALTLEY AND FERNBANK

Thisnew role provides a unique opportunity for a newly qualified nurse within theprevious 12 months to embark on a period of development within Midlands MedicalPartnership.

Thepost will consist of the following components:

Participation in an induction program includingundertaking the Fundamentals of GPN course at BCU.

Participating in BSol STP Early Career GeneralPractice Fellowship (CPD, peer support, leadership development, PCN engagement)

Exposure to working in General Practice andgaining competence and skills as a new GPN

Withinthe university component, attendance at face-to-face days is essential and acommitment to self-directed study is expected. Learning action plans and goalsto be achieved will be agreed upon between the university staff, the practicestaff, and the post holder.

Withinthe Fellowship component full participation in peer support, CPD, and acommitment to developing leadership qualities is expected.

Within the clinical component-specific clinicalsupport and supervision will be agreed upon between the MMP Nurse LeadershipTeam and the post holder. Roles andresponsibilities will evolve over time.

Midlands Medical Partnership is a Birmingham super-partnership currently caring for 72,000 Birmingham Cross-City CCG patients across North and South Birmingham operating out of 10 sites. The partnership was established in April 2009 and continues to grow as a single integrated primary care provider, alongside collaborative working with other similar organisations in our region as part of its strategic forward view. The vision behind the creation of MMP is to improve and develop all that is excellent about traditional GP services local GPs leading and working in local surgeries to provide long-term doctor/patient relationships based on the established values of trust and personalised care, whilst at the same time being part of a larger, more corporate business structure, allowing our practices and patients to benefit from the resources of a larger organisation, enabling us to improve the range and quality of patient services, improve access and patient responsiveness and improve learning across our organisation. MMPs core purpose is to work within a culture of quality to constantly improve the care and service we give our patients. This dynamic partnership with a team of over 200 clinicians and staff is managed by a single executive board, with centralised organisational functions, strong leadership and clinical governance structures.

Job responsibilities

Fundamentals of GPN and Fellowship components:

Attend University for required face to face sessions and engage in required self-directed study to meet deadlines and assessments as required

Ensure learning in the classroom setting is translated into the workplace environment

Identify where insight into specific areas will contribute to learning and negotiate with the practice team to support

Engage with university assessors and clinical supervisors to maximise the potential for learning and development

Attend and participate in monthly peer support meetings

Agree and meet with fellowship link for 1:1s as negotiated locally

Agree on Project objectives with fellowship support and produce a plan to meet the required goals

Complete SSSA training and prepare to be student nurse ready

Be an advocate for general practice nursing using every opportunity to raise awareness of the specialty

Clinical Component

The post holder will deliver high quality, compassionate care and display attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values and in line with the NMC code of conduct

Participate in supervision and de-brief with senior supporting nurse

Seek appropriate support to gain insight into specific clinical areas that will contribute to learning

Participate in practice-based team meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, and nurse meetings contributing to these as appropriate

Engage in reflective practice, learning from constructive feedback and maximising potential for learning

Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements

Administrative and professional responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the surgery team

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer systems as appropriate

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the surgery

Take the lead in infection prevention and control in the surgery

Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports

Attend and participate in meetings as required

Assist in the formation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols

Maintain a notice board in the waiting room area designated for patient health care education

Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the surgery, with regard to confidentiality

Professional development

Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development

The post holder will participate in any training program implemented by the practice as part of this employment

To participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

Take responsibility for own development, learning, and performance and demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

3. Other Responsibilities

Health and Safety

To comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

To take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their own acts or omissions.

To ensure all staff are fully trained and conversant with fire regulations and health and safety and understand what to do in an emergency.

Ensure a trained first aider is available in the building.
