What you'll be doing

This role will be primarily responsible for leading the Wren & Rook non-fiction list, delivering strategies for commercial growth, overseeing the Wren & Rook editorial team and commissioning lead titles for the list.
Who we are looking for

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated individual with significant experience of working in trade non-fiction publishing. We value imagination, ambition and collaboration, and are looking for somebody who can demonstrate exceptional editorial service to authors, author-illustrators and their agents. You will need to be an energetic self-starter, confident in leading projects and meetings, and solutions-driven when handling challenging conversations. 

You will be an experienced non-fiction publishing professional who is an enthusiastic champion of your books – from acquisition through to publication and beyond – who is a great communicator, often collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.

You will have strong relationships within the industry and a track record of proactively seeking out and shaping new projects, both via literary agents and more widely. You will be responsible for commissioning a selection of our lead titles and leading on our biggest pitches.

There will be some management support of junior team members and you will be expected to be a visible leader, communicating and embedding the imprint’s strategy, while identifying opportunities for the editorial team to pursue.

Applicants should have excellent editorial skills and a keen understanding of the children’s and non-fiction market. Proven success in acquiring and publishing commercial non-fiction is essential. You might be an experienced Editorial Director ready to step up, or an existing Publishing Director looking for a new challenge. 

Knowledge of Biblio would be a bonus.

This role can be based at our London office, or at any of our regional offices in Sheffield, Edinburgh, Newcastle, or Bristol, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
