Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the NWLP Pathology IT Team based at Charing Cross.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who will work as part of a dynamic team in Pathology IT. This role will help lead and develop systems and interfaces supporting the NWLP service, ensuring the end to end flow of electronic orders to results in the various systems works as required. The role will also help provide specialist input on projects and service enhancements including developing and optimising integration between the LIMS, instruments, ordercomms, EPRs, external systems and associated workflows.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work a whole time equivalent of hours from 09:00 to 17:30 Mon-Fri and may be required to undertake additional or perform adjusted hours including weekends when needed. The Path IT team also provide a 24/7 rota which team members can participate in once appropriately trained.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

First Degree in relevant IT field or equivalent MSc Information Systems, Computing or a related subject or equivalent experience. Evidence of continual professional development, especially in areas of Information Technology.

Desirable

Scientific Qualification or experience working in Pathology/Healthcare. Post graduate Management qualification or experience of successfully managing a complex department in the NHS or a similar organisation

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Developed analytical skills - able to interpret data, analyse trends. Proven ability to analyse complex information and to take decisive and practical action. Able to use leadership skills to encourage involvement across the Directorate.

Desirable

Significant experience of supporting a LIMS system Experience of managing projects Project management (PRINCE 2).

Experience

Essential

In depth experience of laboratory computer systems and networked application. Familiar with communication protocols, such as TCP/IP and networking technologies Developed analytical skills. Able to interpret data and trends Familiar with systems infrastructure support such as servers, PCs and terminals.

Desirable

Extensive knowledge and experience of information provision of a large complex pathology service, its' application and use. Knowledge of requirements of UKAS standards. Comprehensive understanding of NHS services and knowledge of NHS context ( Modernising Pathology services).
