Job summary

The Nurse Specialist is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team.

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Specialist will act as an autonomous practitioner, informing clinical decisions and complex management plans in the assessment andtreatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff,they will formulate the development of clinical guidelines for all aspectsof clinical practice within the clinical speciality.

The post holderwill work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate withcolleagues to ensure that high-quality patient care is maintained.

Job responsibilities

The GynaecologyNurse Specialist will undertake community clinics providing the followingoutpatient appointments;

Mirenainsertion / removal Endometrialbiopsy Ring/ShelfPessary insertion/removal Generalnurse follow-ups Smearsand speculum exam HVS andvulval swabs MSUorder and review/treat Contraception

Responsibilities

Tosupport patient pathways in gynaecology and participate fully in the treatmentand monitoring of the patients. Tosupport where and when necessary with audit, triage of results and triage ofreferrals. Tosupport and advise patients on the promotion of health and prevention ofillness, teaching patients and their relatives where appropriate. Tosupport the community gynaecology clinics and provide education and resourcesfor patients and families. The post holder will beexpected to demonstrate self-initiative as well as have the ability to managetheir own caseload for the Nurse follow-up clinics.
