The service operates from policecustody and court, which directly engages and supports vulnerable people goingthrough criminal justice system.

You will be working with bothadults and young people, within what is a very interesting and rewarding areaof care that is continuing to develop. As a front-line service, each day can bedifferent in what can be a busy and unpredictable environment.

As a Mental Health Practitioner,the post holder will have clinical responsibilities across the service and beable to supervise junior staff.

The post is open to experiencedpractitioners from a variety of disciplines including mental health nursing,social work, and occupational therapy who are passionate and motivated.

The successful applicant will berequired to apply for Leicestershire Police vetting clearance and have itapproved before a contract can be agreed. Please be aware of the commonfailures in relation to police vetting.

Main duties of the job

Provide timely support and assessment to individuals with vulnerabilities who are in Police Custody or Court including a mental state examination and risk assessment

Work with the Police on the Triage Car to facilitate an effective response to incidents involving mental health or learning disabilities and reduce unnecessary detentions under Section 136 Mental Health Act and voluntary attendances to A&E

Promote independence, foster a learning culture, enhance the autonomy of the service user, ensure high quality, compassionate, person-centred care

Clinically and professionally line manage and supervise to junior team members

Ensure evidence-based practice to continually improve service quality

Be responsible for performing comprehensive service user assessments, plan, implement and evaluate individualised quality care

Work collaboratively and clinically within a multi-agency team and contribute to the provision and development of an effective service in line with legislative, procedural, and contractual requirements

Work within different services and pathways within criminal justice, to ensure all service users gain the assessment, support and care required

Above all the post holder will ensure they deliver safe, culturally competent, effective, timely and accessible care that is in accordance with national and local priorities and responsive to the needs of individuals in contact with the service
