Job summary

The purpose of the role is to:

Offer general assistance to the practice team and projecta positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in personor via the telephone

Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing theappropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, andeffective way.

Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist inthe smooth running of the practice.

Facilitate effective communication between patients,members of the primary healthcare team, secondary care, and other associatedhealthcare agencies.

Main duties of the job

The role involves direct patient contact, both face-to-face and over the telephone, plus a range of administrative tasks.You will possess excellent communicative skills, the ability to handle difficult situations and work under pressure in a demanding environment. You will also need to be able to work independently and with the wider multi-disciplinary team. Previous experience is preferred, especially with SystmOne; however full training will be provided.Candidates will need to be flexible to cover annual leave and sickness as the need arises.

About us

The Croft Medical Centre is situated in Oadby serving a population of approximately 9000 patients. We have an excellent compliment of clinical staff including 3 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, a First Contact Physiotherapist, Clinical Pharmacist, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist. We are a training and research practice with links to Leicester and London Universities.

Job responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken bymembers of the practice reception team may include any or all the items in thefollowing list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction ofthe reception supervisor/practice manager, dependant on current and evolvingpractice workload and staffing levels.

GENERAL

To work within the guidelines and policies of thePractice.

To ensure that safe systems of work are practiced andthat the agreed health and safety policies are carried out.

To be aware of the responsibility of every employee tohave regard for safety for him or herself and others at work within the healthand safety at work act.

To be comply with the practice fire regulations.

Training requirements will be monitored by yearlyappraisal.

Personal development will be encouraged and supported bythe Practice. It is the individuals responsibility to remain up to date withrecent developments within the practice and the NHS.

Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.

Assess own performance and take accountability for ownactions, either directly or under supervision.

To be able to work on your own initiative and takeresponsibility for your workload.

To make suggestions for improvement in processes andprocedures to improve efficiency.

To liaise with other staff and the Practice Manager tofind solutions to internal and external problems.

Support other patient service advisors to maximise thesupport the clinical teams.

Ensure all areas are clean and tidy at the end of eachday.
