SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary) 

Location: Cramlington, Northumberland   

Salary: £75 - £100 per day   

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full time/ Part time 

Are you enthusiastic about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education Sunderland is actively seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic and inclusive secondary schools in Cramlington, Northumberland.

Job Summary:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary), you will play a crucial role in helping students with SEMH needs thrive and succeed in their educational journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored educational programs.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Help students develop coping strategies and social skills.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other staff members.
  • Support students during break and lunchtime activities.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively.

Requirements:

  • Teaching assistant qualification (e.g. CACHE, NVQ) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant in a secondary school would be a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
