GLL is looking for an Archives Assistant to work at Bromley Historic Collections at Bromley Central Library (Up to 36 hours a week) We will consider part time options. With community at the heart of everything we do, as an Archive Assistant, you’ll ensure that every visitor to the Search Room is welcomed into a clean, safe and attractive environment with facilities that keep them wanting to return. As a key frontline member of staff, as an Archives Assistant, you’ll adapt to, and acknowledge, the diversity of our visitors and what they aim to get out of their visit as well as helping them to discover our wide range of resources and services. Archive Assistants should have a passion for local history, as well as community engagement, this will be apparent as you help people do everything from discovering the history of their homes, to tracking their ancestry from our records and even helping with academic study and publications.

What you’ll do:

* Provide and promote the archive service

* Deal with customer enquiries, face to face, on the phone and via email

* Invigilate the search room and assist with events and activities

* Assist with local studies, stock maintenance and presentation

What you need:

* Experience in a heritage, library or research environment

* Strong customer service focus and communication skills

* Knowledge of IT and archive management systems

* Excellent numeracy and literacy skills

* Administration skills and ability to organise your own work loads
